Buying Real Estate

The following describes the steps you should take in, and the process of, buying a home:

1. Interview a real estate sales representative
   Your representative should be someone who...
   • listens to you - you, as a buyer need an agent who understands your needs and desires ... and will help you achieve your home ownership goals
   • explains the buying process and the forms you will see throughout that process
   • has time to spend with you
   • you can believe in
2. Get pre-approved by a mortgage lender - have a written mortgage lender approval
   I will be pleased to refer you to a number of mortgage lenders if you do not already have one
3. Discuss these issues with your representative/agent...
   • Your pre-approval
   • The various forms you will encounter - ask to see them
   • Have your representative explain buyer agency
   • Understanding closing costs
   • Your needs and wants
4. Begin looking for your new home
5. Put in an offer to purchase
   It is very important to read your offer and understand what you are signing - ask questions!
6. A home inspection gives you peace of mind when buying a home. It helps reduce surprises
7. Arrange utility hook-ups, movers, appointment with lawyer etc.
